Sue Ashtiany, Partner and head of the employment team, was announced as a winner of the ‘Professional of the Year’ category, in the ninth prestigious Asian Women of Achievement Awards held on 20th May at the London Hilton, Park Lane. Sue jointly won the award with foster care pioneer Afshan Ahmad.
Sue explained: “I am delighted to have won this award. Nabarro provides a great environment in which to nurture and grow talent wherever it comes from. I have been really happy to have the opportunity to lead and develop a specialist practice in a leading city law firm.”
Sue is one of the UK’s most respected employment and discrimination lawyers and has written and published extensively on issues of discrimination law and positive action and served as Equal Opportunities Commissioner. She has also made a contribution to the understanding of migrant and refugee issues as a UK refugee counsellor appointed by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and sits on the Board of Channel 4, the Equal Rights Trust and the Oxford Piano Festival.
The competition for the Awards was tough, with the shortlist of 44 candidates deemed ‘the best yet’ by the Awards’ sponsors Lloyds TSB. Guests on the red carpet of the Awards included Her Royal Highness Princess Badiya of Jordan, and actress Elizabeth Hurley.
